Rachel & Isaac’s Engagement Shoot: A Scenic Adventure at Bear’s Den

Engagement shoots are all about capturing the unique essence of a couple, and Rachel and Isaac’s session at Bear’s Den in Virginia was no exception. Nestled in the heart of nature, Bear’s Den offers a stunning overlook that’s just a short hike from the parking lot, making it an ideal spot for a picturesque and convenient shoot. And, as a bonus, there’s a cozy brewery right behind it, perfect for celebrating with the couple afterward.

The Art of the Teeth Kiss

One of the things I love most about engagement shoots is teaching couples how to create authentic, natural moments. The "teeth kiss" is one such technique. Instead of puckering up, which can look awkward on camera, I guide couples to smile and get close, and then gently lean in for the kiss. This approach not only creates a more relaxed and genuine moment, but it also results in adorable, candid photos that truly reflect their connection.

Navigating the Lighting Challenge

Every location has its quirks, and Bear’s Den is no different. While the overlook is breathtaking, the lighting can be a bit harsh, especially when the trees are bare in the colder months. This means we have to be strategic with angles and timing to ensure the photos still look soft and flattering. It’s all about adapting and making the best of the conditions.

A Vibrant, Traditional Style

Rachel and Isaac wanted their photos to have a classic, vibrant feel, and I was more than happy to deliver. We played around with different looks and styles, from the telephoto shots that captured intimate moments to the wide-angle shots that showcased the breathtaking scenery. The end result? A gallery that Rachel and Isaac absolutely loved, full of vibrant, timeless images.
