Meet Matt
I’m Matt Maddock, and I’m going to be real with you.
You’ve probably read a dozen "About Me" pages where photographers claim they were "born with a camera in their hand" or that "capturing love is their soul's calling."
That wasn’t me.
I started out in the film world directing short films and a feature length documentary. I cared about energy, timing, and making things look cinematic as hell.
I spent years on chaotic film sets where the only constant was that something was about to break. It taught me that a wedding isn't a boring checklist, it’s a live production. My on set experience is exactly what helps me think three steps ahead and plan for the 1,000 tiny things that could go sideways so you don’t have to.
So when I see a photographer watching the clock or forcing a couple into a stiff, fake pose, it drives me absolutely insane. Because your story isn't a shift, and it definitely shouldn't feel like a grueling nine hour photoshoot.
The Turning Point
I realized the absolute best moments on any film set were the ones that happened between the takes, right when people forgot the camera was even there. That’s when the real truth came out.
That is exactly why I brought everything I learned from commercial film sets into the wedding world. Your wedding day isn't a catalog shoot for a magazine. It is a living, breathing family archive. I wanted to build a production style that actually respected that.
My Goal on Your Wedding Day
My main goal on your wedding day is to let you actually live it while I handle the logistics.
You spent months scouring the DMV for the perfect venue, selecting the finer details, and inviting your absolute favorite people. You should actually get to be present for it.
I’m right there with you to confidently direct your bridal party and keep your timeline entirely on track so you don't have to stress about the clock. We focus on capturing the raw energy and real, candid moments without forcing you into awkward, robotic positions all night. I’ve found that a healthy mix of creative portraiture and completely unposed, raw moments is what actually does your wedding justice.
If you or your partner are worried about feeling awkward in front of a lens, don’t be. My job is to make the entire process feel completely effortless so you can just focus on marrying your best friend and partying.
